Check a job post before you apply
A practical source-checking checklist for job updates shared online.
Find the original employer listing
Follow the source link and look for the position on the employer’s own careers website. Compare the role title, location and application instructions. An aggregator or community can help you discover a vacancy, but it does not replace the employer’s current listing. If the original role is no longer available, treat a circulating copy as potentially expired.
Read what remote actually means
Remote does not always mean work from any country. Look for eligible locations, work authorisation requirements, working hours and time-zone restrictions. Keep these constraints with the job link rather than relying on a short headline. Ask the employer through its published contact route if the listing is unclear.
Check the destination before sharing information
Look carefully at the domain of application forms and contact emails. Be cautious if a message directs you away from an employer’s published process or requests payment to secure a role. Never share passwords or verification codes with someone claiming to process an application. Verify requests independently using contact details you obtain from the organisation.
Keep a short application record
Save the source, date checked, application status and your next step. A group can help you find opportunities; keeping your own record prevents repeated applications and makes follow-up easier. Use the deadline planner for a confirmed closing date. If you discover a misleading post, report it rather than forwarding it.
